Tucked just beyond the bustling city center lies one of Rome’s most remarkable and often overlooked neighborhoods—the Jewish Ghetto. This walking tour invites you to step into a story of resilience, culture, and enduring beauty that most visitors never experience.

You’ll begin at Trajan’s Column before making your way to the ancient Theatre of Marcellus and the Porticus Octaviae—once a grand structure dedicated by Emperor Augustus to his sister Octavia. From there, you’ll enter the Jewish Ghetto, established in 1555 when a papal decree confined the Jewish population within its walls. Despite the restrictions and hardship, the community flourished—developing a distinct dialect, a rich culinary tradition, and a thriving cultural identity that continues to this day.

Along the way, you’ll encounter the magnificent Great Synagogue of Rome, one of the largest in Europe and still an active center of worship and community life. Pass by the elegant Turtle Fountain, savor a taste of Kosher gelato, and cross the river to Tiber Island via Ponte Fabricio—the oldest functioning bridge in the city.

This tour offers more than history—it’s a moving glimpse into a living heritage, full of quiet strength, timeless beauty, and stories that deserve to be told.
