This tour begins at a location of your choosing within Rome’s city center, where you will meet your local, professional guide. From here, a Roman Vacations chauffeur will drive you to the Abbey of Montecassino (Abbazia di Montecassino).

Once you have arrived at the Abbey of Montecassino, your guide will regale you with an account of the grueling and controversial Battle of Montecassino, which took place in the nearby mountains and valleys visible from the Abbey’s terraces. From here, your guide will bring you to the nearby Polish and British Commonwealth cemeteries—stark reminders of the devastating scope of World War II.

Your journey continues beyond Montecassino and into the Pontine Marshes (Paludi Pontine). Here, your guide will show you one of the largest collections of WWII military vehicles in Europe—many of which have been used in WWII films, including
Life Is Beautiful and The English Patient

After a short drive from the Pontine Marshes, you will arrive at the charming coast of Nettuno, where many American forces landed during the Battle of Anzio. From here, your guide will lead you to the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial where nearly eight thousand American soldiers are buried. From Nettuno it is a short drive to Anzio, where your tour will continue to the Anzio Beachhead Museum.

Your return to Rome will follow the victory path of the Allied forces, from their beachhead win in Anzio to their triumphal arrival at the Eternal City. Here, your chauffeur will return you to a location of your choosing within Rome’s city center.
