This private tour begins at Trajan’s Column. From here, your expert, local guide will lead you past Piazza Venezia, past Capitoline Hill, through the Theater of Marcellus and the Portico D’Ottavia, and into the Jewish Ghetto.
Once inside the heart of the ghetto, your guide will usher you past significant landmarks, like the only remaining section of the original ghetto wall, the Great Synagogue—the third largest synagogue in Europe—and the newly restored Fontana delle Tartarughe (Turtle Fountain), a true masterpiece of the late Renaissance. Here, you will have the opportunity to stop for traditional Kosher gelato at Marlene’s Gelateria, the only Kosher gelateria in all of Italy.
Your journey continues beyond the Jewish Ghetto, across Ponte Fabricio, the oldest functioning bridge in Rome, and onto Tiber Island, the last stop of your tour. Here, the ancient Romans built a hospital, and ever since Tiber Island has been used as a medical sanctuary—During WWII, this island played an especially significant role in the salvation of many Jews.
